Sustainblity

Our sustainability frame

Our approach to sustainability is built on strong foundations that guide the way we work and support our net zero, people and planet aims

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. Our sustainability frame underpins delivery of our strategy, and our refreshed sustainability aims are focused on those that are most relevant to the long-term success of our business.

Net zero operations

We believe our net zero ambition and aims, taken together, are consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement. By setting a path that enables us to make a positive contribution, working to build out and participate in many of the new energy value chains the world will need, and through our efforts to reduce our overall operational emissions, our ambition and aims support the world’s progress towards the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Foundations and embedding sustainability

Our approach to sustainability is targeted, systematic and collaborative – built on strong, foundations that guide the way we work and support our net zero, people and planet aims. We are working to embed sustainability more widely and deeply in our culture, business decisions, processes and governance.

Operating Management System (OMS)

At bp-well, safety comes first and is foundational to everything we do. We want to improve our safety performance and continue working towards our goal of eliminating fatalities, life-changing injuries and tier 1 process safety events. Our OMS provides a single framework for delivering safe, reliable and compliant operations. It brings together bp requirements on health, safety, security, environment, social performance and operational reliability, as well as related areas such as maintenance, working with contractors and organizational learning, into a common management system.

Safety

Our approach to sustainability

Our approach to sustainability is targeted, systematic and collaborative. It rests on strong, well-established foundations. We are working to embed sustainability more widely and deeply in our culture, business decisions, processes and governance

Ethics and compliance

Our code of conduct sets the standards and expectations for how we do the right thing and empowers us to speak up without fear of retaliation. It is the foundation of ‘Who we are’ and puts safety first.  Together with our Safety Leadership Principles and OMS, it helps us make safe and ethical decisions, act responsibly, comply with applicable laws and deliver our sustainability frame.

EAnti-bribery and corruption

We operate in parts of the world where bribery and corruption present a high risk, so it is important to inform our employees, contractors, suppliers, and others, that our commitment to ethical and compliant operations is unwavering. Our code explicitly prohibits engaging in any form of bribery or corruption and includes an expectation that we work to ensure our business partners comply with our requirements.

Organization and governance

We are organized into nine entities, each with a clear purpose. Our corporate governance framework enables us to fulfil both our purpose and net zero ambition.

bp-well’s corporate governance framework has a significant role in enabling us to fulfil our purpose of delivering energy to the world, today and tomorrow. The board has defined its responsibilities and an additional range of matters on which decision-making is reserved to itself – both of which are set out in its terms of reference. Click on the icons in our governance framework below for full details.

Governance

As part of the governance structure and in accordance with the Corporate Governance Code the board has documented the responsibilities of the chair of the board, the CEO and the senior independent director. These can be found below:

Our code of conduct

Our code sets standards and expectations for how we do the right thing and empowers us to speak up without fear of retaliation. It is the foundation of ‘Who we are’, our culture frame, and puts safety first. Together with our Safety Leadership Principles and OMS, it helps us make safe and ethical decisions, act responsibly, comply with applicable laws, and implement our sustainability frame.

Our code reinforces the importance of speaking up about anything that is unsafe, unlawful or inconsistent with its content. It makes it clear that everyone who works for bp has a responsibility to speak up and it emphasizes line managers’ responsibility to listen and act when concerns are raised and the importance of non-retaliation. We encourage people to speak up and we do not tolerate retaliation of any kind and consider it to be misconduct.

Honest and Ethical Conduct

Each Covered Officer owes a duty to the Company to act with integrity, respecting the different cultures and the dignity and rights of individuals in all the countries where the Company operates. Integrity requires, among other things, being honest and candid within the constraints of Company confidentiality (which is always subject to any legally mandated disclosure). Deceit and subordination of principle are inconsistent with integrity.

Covered Officers shall not take part in or attempt to influence a decision or settlement if there is a conflict of interest. Covered Officers shall not take actions or have interests that make it difficult to perform their work objectively and effectively.

Anti-bribery and corruption

Managing bp’s key enduring risks, including our exposure to bribery and corruption, is essential. We operate in parts of the world where bribery and corruption present high risks, so it is important that we engage with our employees, contractors, suppliers and others to emphasize that our commitment to ethical and compliant operations is unwavering.
